Congratulations seniors! I hope you had a restful and refreshing summer. This year I teach 8th grade science and the Living Environment Regents and 7th grade PBL. Marking period one has ended. 7th grade- There will be a 7th grade project on plate tectonics for the students to do over the Christmas break. 8th grade- Students will use the Christmas break to prepare for socratic seminar on cloning extinct animals. Regents students will have a practice regents to do over the break. Please enjoy your holidays!

October

Parents and students, We have completed our first round of socratic seminar. The classes did well discussing GMOs and designer babies. The deadline for summer packet is October 16th. No summer work will be collected after that. The write up for socratic seminar is due now and we are up to hw#7. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Engrade is up and current.

The school year has commenced! Engrade is up and running. Students are in the process of registering their accounts. Parents may make their own account with their own passwords and follow the student progress. Ask your child for the access code. This week we studied observations and inferences. We practiced the procedures and rules of the classroom.The summer project has been collected and grading will begin. Next week we will practice using smart response. We will take the genetics pre test and there will be a quiz on observations and inferences.

Welcome back! It is a very busy time for science class. Extinct animal projects are due tomorrow Jan 7th. We are also working on collecting the data for the next project Battling Beaks. In addition we are preparing for our next socratic seminar! Whew. We are working very hard!

Parent teacher conferences

It was wonderful meeting with the parents today, as some of you requested I have placed a copy of the student book on pupil path. Students may use it to study and reinforce the lessons. Gene Combo

Most of the classes are in the midst of collecting and analyzing the data from the Gene Combo Lab. The lab report for this is due October 17, 2014. Don't wait for the last minute to work on this. As always, if you need help come and see me.

The state ELA exam is finished! You are one step closer to graduation. Stay strong, the Math and Science exams are still to come. We are currently working on our Exit Projects. Straw Rockets.It is a project where applying Newton’s three laws of motion, students design an investigation involving straw rockets. The five tasks have students develop their writing skills by having them practice formulating a question, paraphrasing text, developing a hypothesis, constructing a procedure, and analyzing data to draw a conclusion. The final performance task requires them to aggregate these portions of a lab report as well as make real-world connections from what they learned.
